Greetings from Grand Forks! I am blogging from the North Dakota Tourism Conference at the Alerus Center. Wow! What a facility! More than 200 tourism people from across North Dakota are gathered here today and tomorrow to brainstorm ways of "thinking inside the box."
North Dakota Horizons is a sponsor and exhibitor at the conference. We're promoting the magazine, calendar, website and blog. It's fun to see the folks that live and breathe tourism in the state. Horizons writes about many of these attractions and places, and it's really neat when someone says, "You've featured our attraction!"
Dr. Jeffrey Stamp was the opening keynote speaker, and he did a great job. His enthusiasm was contagious! One of the things that really stuck with me after his talk was this: "Don't talk about how many acres you have. Say instead that our wheat feeds 2,000 people." That advice came from his grandpa. To me, that's so profound. North Dakotans have so much to be proud of! When you think of how many people we serve with our products, the result is simply astounding.
Later this afternoon, we will honor those who have made an impact in the tourism industry. There are a lot of dedicated people who truly make North Dakota come alive to those who don't know about our great state. I applaud their commitment to the state!
I am looking forward to learning more about how we can think "inside the box." Wouldn't you say we have so many great things right within our own borders? I certainly think so!
